It is just that some religions are more equal than others.

The featured editorial of the Sunday December 21, 2008 edition of the Calgary Herald gave me a great Christmas present. In attempting to quickly side step their many religious prejudices while simultaneously bending logic and rationality to extremes, they presented readers with the editorial equivalent of Riverdance meets Cirque de Soleil and gave readers a good look at editorial hypocrisy in the process. It’s that time of year again, the ‘holiday’ season. A time for families, friends and neighbors to gather around the fireplace and enjoy a cup of cheer (in our house, massive amounts of red wine). All in all, this is my favorite time of year and for obvious reasons.

The holiday season is also the time of those inevitable debates between those wishing to preserve the separation of church and state on the one hand, and various religious groups on the other. No question as to what side the Calgary Herald will take.
